Aplicação de Resina de copolímero de EVA PRIMEVA P33025C, grau adesivo de fusão quente

Corrugated carton sealing on automated packaging lines represents one of the highest-volume downstream applications for PRIMEVA P33025C. A production formulation containing 35 wt% P33025C EVA copolymer, 40 wt% C5/C9 aliphatic-aromatic hydrocarbon tackifier, 24 wt% Fischer-Tropsch wax and 1 wt% hindered phenolic antioxidant is processed in heated tank melters fitted with variable-speed piston pumps. The melt pool is maintained at 160 °C to 165 °C, while nozzle temperature is set at 170 °C to 175 °C. Application through a 0.5 mm diameter slot die delivers 1.5 g/m² to 2.5 g/m² adhesive to the carton flap. Compression open time is 2.0 s to 3.5 s, with set-to-fiber-tear bonds observed on recycled corrugated board at 25 °C. Food contact compliance requires the adhesive to remain behind a functional barrier under FDA 21 CFR 175.105 and the EVA copolymer to meet FDA 21 CFR 177.1350 specifications for extractives. The material is also screened against RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU for lead, mercury and hexavalent chromium at homogenized concentrations below 0.1 wt%, and cadmium below 0.01 wt%. A known production failure mode is char accumulation in the tank corners when melt temperature exceeds 190 °C for more than 2 h; nitrogen-blanketed melters reduce measurable viscosity drift to below 5% over an 8 h shift as determined by ASTM D3236-15 at 180 °C. For high-moisture corrugated stock at RH above 60%, pre-drying of the substrate is required because trapped water vapor causes micro-foaming in the bead, reducing fiber tear from full to partial at press speeds above 120 boxes/min. The terminal product is a sealed corrugated shipper, including frozen food and consumer goods cartons where cold-chain set speed and recycled board adhesion are critical.

What Limits Side-Glue Penetration in Perfect-Bound Books?

In perfect-bound book lines running at chain speeds above 12,000 cycles/h, PRIMEVA P33025C is compounded at 38 wt% with 34 wt% rosin ester tackifier, 20 wt% paraffin wax and 8 wt% styrenic block copolymer modifier. Spine-gluing temperature is 165 °C to 175 °C; side-glue application temperature is 150 °C to 160 °C to avoid page penetration. The spine glue is applied by a roller wheel at 0.4 mm to 0.8 mm film thickness, followed by case clamping at 0.15 MPa to 0.25 MPa for 4 s to 6 s. Side glue is delivered at 0.25 g/m² to 0.35 g/m² to the outer signatures. Open time of 4 s to 8 s is critical. Side-glue penetration into coated paper becomes unacceptable when viscosity drops below 1,200 mPa·s at 160 °C, measured by ASTM D3236-15. Pot stability under ASTM D4497-21 at 175 °C for 72 h must retain viscosity within ±10% and softening point within ±5 °C by ASTM E28-99. The finished product is a perfect-bound catalog or softcover book; pull-out force is evaluated by a 90 N to 140 N page pull test using a tensile tester at 50 mm/min, though published data for P33025C in this specific test configuration is limited. REACH Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 Annex XVII and Toy Safety Directive 2009/48/EC migration limits for PAHs apply when the book is marketed to children under 36 months. Typical production failures are spine cracks below 0 °C because the paraffin wax crystallizes; low-temperature flexibility is improved by reducing wax content from 20 wt% to 14 wt%, but this increases setting time and raises blocking risk in warm warehouses.

Primerless ABS Edge Banding Viscosity Plateau and Thermal Shear Stability

When a primerless 1.0 mm ABS edge band is pressed onto an MDF core at a line speed of 25 m/min to 40 m/min on an IMA or Homag edge banding machine, the adhesive must maintain a viscosity plateau above 80,000 mPa·s at 180 °C under the roller. A hot melt containing 30 wt% PRIMEVA P33025C, 38 wt% hydrogenated hydrocarbon tackifier, 22 wt% Fischer-Tropsch wax, and 10 wt% maleated polypropylene wax is applied through a heated slot nozzle. Application temperature is 185 °C to 195 °C. Compression roller pressure is 0.3 MPa to 0.5 MPa with a contact time of 0.8 s to 1.2 s. Peel adhesion to ABS is evaluated according to ISO 4587:2003 lap shear geometry using 25 mm bonded area; values in the range of 2.5 MPa to 3.5 MPa are considered acceptable for interior furniture. Thermal shear stability is controlled because edge banding applicators operate with continuous circulation; the viscosity after 24 h at 190 °C must not increase more than 15% as measured by ASTM D3236-15 using a Brookfield Thermosel with Spindle 27. The terminal products are office panels and cabinet doors. The operational boundary is firm: not suitable for exterior weather exposure or sustained water immersion; adhesion to melamine-faced MDF may fall below acceptable after 7 days at 85% RH when no primer is used.

When Low-VOC Interior Lamination Requires Viscosity Stability at 140 °C

For automotive door inserts, a low-VOC formulation based on 32 wt% PRIMEVA P33025C, 36 wt% fully hydrogenated tackifier, 25 wt% polyethylene wax, 5 wt% amorphous poly-alpha-olefin and 2 wt% antioxidant masterbatch is sprayed using a rotary misting head at 150 °C to 160 °C. The spray head generates bead diameters of 0.2 mm to 0.4 mm. Open time before lamination is 15 s to 25 s, and compression is applied at 0.05 MPa to 0.10 MPa for 10 s to 20 s. VOC emissions from the finished laminate are measured according to VDA 278:2011 thermodesorption analysis; the formulation is designed to maintain volatile organic compound emissions below 100 µg/g when tested at 90 °C for 30 minutes. Fogging is measured according to DIN 75201:2011 method B, with reflectance values above 90% after 3 h at 100 °C. A documented production failure is cold spray nozzle blockage when wax crystallizes below 140 °C; therefore, all hoses, filters, and spray heads must be maintained above 145 °C with heated transfer lines. The final assembly is an interior door panel or armrest insert. Published data for P33025C in this specific configuration is limited; emitted figures are based on standard formulations for low-VOC EVA hot melts and must be verified against the supplier technical datasheet.

Molten adhesive for profile wrapping of thin PVC, PET and paper veneer onto MDF or particleboard profiles is applied at 140 °C to 160 °C by a single roller or slot nozzle. A compound based on 28 wt% PRIMEVA P33025C, 40 wt% rosin ester tackifier, 22 wt% microcrystalline wax, and 10 wt% polyolefin wax is used when high initial tack at 10 s to 15 s open time is required. The adhesive is deposited at 30 g/m² to 60 g/m² depending on profile geometry and veneer porosity. Line speeds on a profile wrapping machine with a heated pressure zone range from 15 m/min to 45 m/min. After the profile passes through the heated calibration rollers, cooling to below 25 °C for 15 s is required before cutting to prevent adhesive transfer onto saw blades. Adhesion to untreated uPVC veneer is tested using a 180° peel test adapted from ASTM D903-98 at a separation rate of 100 mm/min; typically, 2 N/mm to 4 N/mm bond strengths are achieved. VOC and formaldehyde emissions from the wrapped profile are checked against EN 717-1:2004 and EN 16516:2017+A1:2020 for indoor furniture markets. The final parts are furniture edging strips, cabinet profiles and decorative trim. A critical boundary is sustained exposure above 60 °C, which causes creep in the thermoplastic bond; dark-colored profile surfaces in direct sunlight are not recommended without additional mechanical fastening.

Thermal Degradation Byproducts Are Minimized in Heated Transfer Lines for Spiral Filter Seam Bonding

For spiral-wound automotive oil filter cartridges, a hot melt compound using PRIMEVA P33025C at 33 wt% with 37 wt% cycloaliphatic hydrocarbon resin, 22 wt% paraffin wax, and 8 wt% ethylene-propylene copolymer is pumped through heated transfer lines at 165 °C to 175 °C. The adhesive is ejected as a 1.0 mm to 1.5 mm bead at 0.8 g/m to 1.2 g/m onto the filter paper seam before spiral winding. Bond integrity is measured by first bubble point according to ISO 2942:2004, with the seam required to withstand a pressure differential above 0.8 MPa at 120 °C for 500 h. Compression rollers are set to 0.5 MPa and winding speed is 30 m/min to 50 m/min. Production failure modes include blocked nozzle tips caused by carbonized particles when pot temperature exceeds 200 °C; char deposits in gear pumps increase pressure drop from 3.5 MPa to above 5.0 MPa and reduce bead uniformity. Ethylene-vinyl acetate formulations without crosslinking are limited to continuous oil exposure below 120 °C because creep modulus decreases. REACH Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 Annex XVII restrictions on polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons apply to hydrocarbon tackifiers, with polycyclic aromatic content screened using IP 346. The terminal products are full-flow oil filter cartridges and fuel filter elements.
