Aplicação de Emulsão VAE CW97-719 Ultra-Low-Tg
Pressure-Sensitive Adhesive Laminates That Retain Tack Below −10°C
CW97-719 is introduced into transfer-coated filmic label stock and cold-chain packaging tapes where conventional acrylic dispersions lose peel adhesion at sub-zero storage temperatures. The emulsion is compounded into a continuous machinecoat formula without external plasticizer owing to the ethylene-rich soft segment of the VAE backbone, which delivers a glass transition temperature measured by differential scanning calorimetry at −25 ± 2°C under ISO 11357-2:2020 conditions. In a typical pilot-scale knife-over-roll line with a 1,200 mm web width and line speed locked at 18 m/min, the wet film gauge is set at 120 μm on silicone-coated glassine release liner. Drying across three consecutive forced-air zones with zone-1 supply air at 85°C, zone-2 at 105°C, and zone-3 at 90°C produces a dried coat weight of 21–23 g/m². A tackified variant is built by shearing in a Cowles disperser at 1,200 rpm for 20 min a hydrocarbon resin dispersion (softening point 85°C, 40–50 phr on solids) and a rosin ester dispersion (10–15 phr) pre-neutralized to pH 7.8 with NH₄OH to suppress shock demulsification. Loop tack on polyethylene test panels meters at 8.5–11.2 N/25 mm as per FINAT FTM 9 at −5°C, with no transfer residue in shear-hold evaluation under a 1 kg load sustained over 72 h at −10°C. The industrial user must note that catalyst residues from certain grades of hydrogenated rosin esters can trigger a measurable viscosity swing of +1,500 mPa·s within 48 h of ambient ageing; inline Brookfield monitoring at 20 rpm spindle 4 is therefore mandated before transfer to the coating head. Film clarity under cold lamination onto biaxially oriented polypropylene is retained below 4% haze when the dry film thickness does not exceed 24 μm, tested with a BYK haze-gard i in accordance with ASTM D1003-21. This formulation finds its final form in freezer-grade logistics labels compliant with direct-food-contact incidental use under FDA 21 CFR 175.105 and EU 10/2011 migration limits verified by EN 1186-1:2002 overall migration into simulant A (ethanol 10 % v/v, 10 days at 40°C).Why a direct-coat nonwoven binder formulation holds hydrogen-bond density during rewet cyclesNonwoven hygiene backsheets and acquisition distribution layers built from carded rayon-polypropylene blends rely on CW97-719 to establish discrete fiber-to-fiber junctions that survive repeated fluid insults. Because the ultra-low-Tg regime sits well below the thermal excursion of body-worn articles, the polymer network resists stiffening when the composite cools from body temperature to ambient washdown conditions. The formulation is run at 18 % solids in a submerged-jet air-assisted spray cabinet targeting a binder add-on of 6–8% w/w dry-on-dry. Wet-laid or carded webs pass through a perforated drum dryer with zone peak temperature capped at 138°C to avoid thermal boning that collapses loft. A crosslinker of blocked isocyanate dispersion (HDI-trimer type) is metered inline at 0.8 wt% on binder solids via a positive-displacement micro-dosing pump; onset of crosslinking is triggered at web surface temperature exceeding 112°C verified by a spot infrared pyrometer. The crosslink density, estimated from tensile storage modulus plateau above 140°C on a dynamic mechanical analyser in tension mode at 1 Hz, shifts upward by 1.8–2.4 MPa compared with the un-crosslinked control, translating into wet tensile strength retention of ≥ 72% per EDANA NWSP 110.4.R0 after a 5 min soak in deionised water at 23°C. Equipment operators observe that foam generation in the recirculating cabinet sump becomes unmanageable when the emulsion temperature exceeds 32°C due to mechanical shear heating from the recirculation pump; heat-exchanger jackets controlled to 26 ± 1°C are therefore standard. A defoamer blend of mineral oil–silica adduct pre-emulsified to 0.12 wt% on wet binder is found sufficient to reduce pit defects to below 2 per m² in finished laminate. The final composite passes EC No. 1907/2006 (REACH) restricted substance limits and is received in baby diaper leg-cuff laminates where its odour profile registers ≤ 3.0 on the Véyron & Associés organoleptic scale after accelerated ageing at 50°C for 72 h.Carpet secondary-backing latex compounds with cold-flex endurance
Tuft-level lock and dimensional stability in commercial broadloom carpet rely on a filler-loaded latex compound where CW97-719 serves as the sole binder at a pigmentation of 600 phr calcium carbonate (ground, median particle size 12 μm) on 100 phr dry binder. Compounding is executed in a non-pressurized planetary mixer with fill-factor limited to 0.55 to ensure dry dispersion before water let-down adjustment. The compound viscosity target is 8,000–10,000 mPa·s at 20 rpm Brookfield LV 4, and a medium-molecular-weight sodium polyacrylate dispersant (0.15 wt% active on filler) is added to suppress dilatancy during pultrusion through a 2.5 mm slit nozzle onto secondary backing fabric travelling at 14 m/min. Delamination resistance tested under ISO 11857:1999 shows tuft-bind values of 5.8–6.4 kg after conditioning at −15°C for 24 h; the same formulation at 23°C delivers 7.2 kg, indicating a cold-brittle loss of only 18 % that industrial benchmarks for SBR latex exceed 30 %. A critical processing boundary appears at low relative humidity (< 25% RH) in the curing tunnel where surface skinning forms a crust that traps residual moisture and triggers blistering in the subsequent hot-melt lamination zone; tunnel humidity is maintained at 40 ± 5% RH by steam injection. Flame-retardant packages of aluminium trihydroxide (ATH, 90 phr) in combination with CW97-719 pass the radiant panel test ASTM E648-19a Class I criteria when applied weight exceeds 950 g/m² dry. Regulatory conformance includes GB 18587-2001 limits on VOC release for interior textile floor coverings and AgBB 2021 scheme requirements for European contract carpet, supported by chamber testing at 28 days per ISO 16000-9:2006.In waterproofing membrane production, CW97-719 is diluted to 45 % solids with deionised water and mixed with a hindered-amine light-stabiliser dispersion (0.5 wt%) and a benzimidazolone yellow pigment pre-dispersion (2.0 wt% on liquid). The liquid is curtain-coated at a film weight of 180 g/m² wet onto a 240 g/m² polyester nonwoven carrier impregnated in-line with a coagulant mist of calcium nitrate tetrahydrate solution (5 % w/v) to freeze the polymer skin and inhibit strike-through. After passage through an initial gelation bath at 55°C and a final curing drum at 125°C with dwell time 2.8 minutes, the membrane exhibits a hydrostatic head of ≥ 2,200 mm H₂O before oven ageing per EN 20811:1992 and retains ≥ 1,800 mm after 500 h of QUV-B exposure (ASTM G154-20, cycle 1). Cold-mandrel bend at −20°C over a 10 mm diameter shows no surface cracking when the low-Tg polymer matrix accommodates strain without cavitation. This elastomeric waterproofing laminate enters the market as under-tile sealing sheets meeting ETA Guideline 022 part 1 requirements and CE-marked under EN 13956:2012 harmonised performance classes covering tensile strength (class L) and tear resistance (nail-shank per EN 12310-2:2018, ≥ 120 N). Production personnel need to adjust the calcium nitrate concentration weekly based on wet-film penetration depth measured by a handheld microscope at ×40 magnification; penetration exceeding 35 % of carrier thickness leads to delamination blisters under sunlight exposure. When CW97-719 replaces SBR in paper-to-film extrusion-bonding primers
A primer layer for polyethylene-extrusion lamination onto clay-coated board employs CW97-719 thinned to 22 % solids with a wetting agent blend that lowers dynamic surface tension to 34 mN/m on Kraft liner (measured via bubble-pressure tensiometer at 1 s surface age). The primer is applied by a smooth-roll gravure coater with 60 lines/cm chrome-plated cylinder rotating at 65 % of line speed to deliver 0.8–1.0 g/m² dry deposit. At the extrusion nip, LDPE at 315°C melt temperature fuses to the primed surface within a 0.25 s open-time window. Fibre-tear bond strength assessed by manual peel on 25 mm strips after 24 h conditioning at 23°C/50 % RH attains 100 % paper-rupture mode exceeding 3.5 N/25 mm measured on a tensile tester at 300 mm/min crosshead speed per TAPPI T 833 pm-95. Replacing carboxylated SBR with CW97-719 eliminates the ammonium hydroxide pH buffer entirely, reducing pressroom amine vapour to below 1 ppm time-weighted exposure. The primer tank life exceeds 48 h without sediment or grit formation, provided the system is kept under nitrogen blanket at 0.2 bar overpressure to suppress aerobic microbial growth. A side-effect observed on production-scale extrusion coaters is an earlier onset of back-trap mottle when the chill-roll temperature drifts above 18°C, because the primer’s surface energy allows a marginally thicker air layer to be entrained; therefore chill-roll tempering to 12–15°C is enforced. Compliance for food-grade liquid packaging board falls under BfR Recommendation XXXVI paper and board contact, with specific migration of vinyl acetate monomer held below 0.01 mg/kg simulant in EN 13130-1:2004 single-sided testing. The finished structure is a sterile brick-pack inner ply for extended-shelf-life dairy.Textile hand-builder paste that survives industrial laundry cycles
CW97-719 is formulated with fumed silica (1.5 wt% AEROSIL 200) to create a thixotropic print paste body that inhibits capillary wicking into yarns during rotary-screen application onto polyester-curtain fabrics. The paste viscosity at 0.5 s⁻¹ shear rate is controlled to 28,000–34,000 mPa·s and drops below 2,500 mPa·s under a squeegee-induced shear rate in excess of 200 s⁻¹. Wet-laydown is 25–30 g/m² through a 125 mesh engraved screen; curing proceeds for 3 min at 140°C in a belt oven. A secondary copolyester resin dispersion (10 phr) raises the Vicat softening point of the total polymer film, as measured by thermomechanical analysis probe penetration, above the 95°C wash cycle peak, permitting the treated fabric to endure 50 industrial laundry cycles per ISO 15797:2017 without hardening. Colour-fastness to rubbing under ISO 105-X12:2016 records grey-scale grade 4–5 dry and 4 wet, while tensile strength retention after laundry is maintained within ± 8 % of the virgin fabric. A critical processing risk is the onset of paste skinning on the screen surface during line stoppages longer than 3 min; a fine mist of water-propylene glycol (85:15) sprayed automatically at pause intervals extends open-time to 12 min. The crosslinked coating achieves classification under Oeko-Tex Standard 100 product class II without detectable formaldehyde or alkylphenol ethoxylates, and the emulsion itself is manufactured under ISO 14001:2015 certified site conditions with lifecycle inventory data publicly available from the producer. The ultra-low-Tg resin functions as a permanent-flexibilised cementitious modifier when CW97-719 is post-added into a two-component polymer-modified cementitious waterproofing slurry at a polymer-to-cement ratio of 0.20 on solids. Portland cement CEM I 52.5R is dry-blended with silica sand (0–0.5 mm) and a powdered polycarboxylate superplasticiser (0.3 wt% on cement), then gauged with the emulsion pre-diluted to 40 % solids at the jobsite using a slow-speed paddle mixer at 300 rpm for 2 min. Pot life remains 55–65 min at 20°C before flow diameter drops below 140 mm in the Hägermann cone test per EN 1015-3:1999. After a 28-day wet cure, the mortar displays crack-bridging ability under EN 1062-7:2004 with the movable joint widened to 0.35 mm at −10°C without cohesive failure. Capillary water absorption coefficient falls to 0.08 kg/(m²·h⁰·⁵) tested under EN 1062-3:2008, highlighting the film-forming capacity of the VAE phase within the capillary pore network. The product qualifies as a component of a CE-marked liquid-applied water-impermeable system for balconies under ETAG 005 part 4. Trowel-applied thickness must not exceed 2 mm per layer to avoid skin-crust inhibition of CO₂ ingress and subsequent retardation of cement hydration; cross-section microscopy has confirmed calcite depletion deeper than 1.8 mm when single-layer application surpasses 3 mm.
