Aplicação de ELEVATE EF206 Copolímero de acetato de vinilo de etileno

ELEVATE EF206, with a nominal vinyl acetate comonomer content of 20.6 wt%, a melt flow rate of 2.0 g/10 min under ISO 1133-1:2022, and a density of 0.940 g/cm³ per ASTM D1505, is compounded into a closed-cell midsole formulation in a Banbury internal mixer with a fill factor of 0.75–0.85 before the addition of azodicarbonamide blowing agent. The resin phase uses 100 phr ELEVATE EF206, 15 phr ethylene-octene polyolefin elastomer, 3.0 phr calcium stearate, 1.2 phr zinc oxide, and 0.8 phr dicumyl peroxide with 98% active content. Batch dropping at 105–115 °C avoids premature blowing-agent decomposition while peroxide scorch time, measured at 170 °C by rheometer per ISO 6502, is maintained above 1.5 min. The compound is sheeted, granulated, and cured in a compression press at 165 °C for 10 min with a pressure of 15 N/mm², producing a density of 0.22 g/cm³ and a Shore A hardness of 60 per ISO 7619-1:2019. Crosslink density is confirmed by moving die rheometer torque increase of 2.5–3.5 dN·m. Tear strength per ISO 34-1:2015 Method B is typically 4.5–5.5 kN/m. Drying is required at 60 °C for 3 h when ambient relative humidity exceeds 60% because residual moisture creates surface pinholes. The final component is a skate and athletic midsole with compression set below 30% after 6 h at 50 °C per ISO 815-1:2014. Regulatory screening covers REACH Annex XVII items 50–52; the blowing agent is selected with decomposition residues below 20 ppm for non-food consumer goods. Published EF206-specific expansion ratio data for this exact formulation is limited; the processing window reflects production-scale ranges for 18–25 wt% VA foam grades.

What Melt Viscosity Window Sustains Hot Melt Adhesive Tack?

Hot melt adhesive formulations using ELEVATE EF206 are prepared in jacketed sigma-blade mixers with a working capacity of 500–1,000 kg at a set point of 165 °C under a nitrogen blanket limited to 0.5 m³/h. The resin is combined with 35 wt% ELEVATE EF206, 38 wt% hydrogenated C9 hydrocarbon tackifier with a softening point of 105 °C according to ASTM E28, 22 wt% paraffin wax with a melting point of 66 °C according to ASTM D87, and 0.8 wt% hindered phenolic antioxidant. Mixing torque rises from 15 N·m to 45 N·m after melting, and the batch is dropped at 175 °C. Viscosity is measured with a Brookfield thermosel spindle 27 at 180 °C, giving 1,800–2,200 mPa·s, and must remain below 2,500 mPa·s for wheel and nozzle coaters. Open time on polyethylene and PET substrates is controlled to 4–8 s, and loop tack on corrugated board reaches 3.0–4.5 N per ASTM D6195-19. The adhesive is applied at 160–170 °C through heated slot dies with a coat weight of 15–25 g/m². Terminal applications include carton sealing, bookbinding, and foam bonding. The formulation is not suitable for continuous pot temperatures above 190 °C because thermal degradation increases the acid number and produces gel particles above 100 µm after 24 h. Food-contact use requires the final adhesive to comply with FDA 21 CFR 175.105 and EU Regulation 10/2011 where applicable; the raw resin alone does not provide a compliance declaration.

Flame-retardant cable sheathing compounds based on ELEVATE EF206 are produced on a co-rotating twin-screw extruder with a 44:1 L/D ratio, a barrel diameter of 75 mm, and side-feeding at the 28 D position. The formulation contains 100 phr ELEVATE EF206, 140 phr precipitated aluminium trihydrate with a specific surface area of 7 m²/g, 20 phr magnesium dihydroxide, 1.5 phr vinyl silane coupling agent, 3.0 phr zinc borate, and 2.0 phr hindered amine stabilizer. The temperature profile from feed to die is 130 °C, 145 °C, 155 °C, 160 °C, 160 °C, 155 °C; screw speed is held at 250 rpm to reduce viscosity degradation. The limiting oxygen index reaches 38% under ASTM D2863, and the compound passes a single vertical wire flame test at 60 s ignition per IEC 60332-1-2. Smoke density is below 90 under ASTM E662 in flaming mode after 4 min. Tensile strength is 12–14 MPa and elongation at break is 180–220% under ISO 527-2:2012. The main processing risk is water release from ATH above 190 °C; therefore, head pressure is limited to 8 MPa and die inlet temperature must not exceed 165 °C. Terminal products are low-smoke zero-halogen sheathing for building cable, control cable, and solar cable. Compliance is checked against IEC 60754-1 for pH above 4.3 and conductivity below 10 µS/mm, and RoHS 2011/65/EU Annex II for lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, and brominated flame retardants at the homogeneous material level.

Masterbatch Carrier Function in Polyolefin Dilution Streams

ELEVATE EF206 is used as a carrier resin in pigment and additive masterbatches for blown and cast film dilution. The carrier phase is 35–40 wt% ELEVATE EF206, the active pigment is 20–45 wt% organic or inorganic pigment, and the remainder is 10–15 wt% polyethylene wax and 3–5 wt% calcium stearate dispersant. Compounding is performed on a co-rotating 40 mm twin-screw extruder with a 36:1 L/D, vacuum-assisted devolatilization at -0.08 MPa, and screw speed of 300 rpm. Melt temperature is limited to 155–165 °C because higher temperatures shift the residence time distribution and increase low-molecular-weight volatiles. Filter pressure value on a 25 µm screen pack in a single-screw film line is maintained below 0.4 bar/g at 190 °C when the masterbatch is let down at 4 wt% into linear low-density polyethylene. The terminal articles are printed carrier bags, agricultural film, and surface protection film with a final pigment loading of 0.5–1.5 wt%. Incompatibilities occur with rigid PVC stabilized with lead-based systems above 180 °C due to accelerated acid generation; masterbatch destined for EU markets must conform to REACH Annex XVII and the Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive 94/62/EC heavy metal limits of 100 ppm total lead, cadmium, mercury, and chromium VI.

When ELEVATE EF206 Is Coextruded as a Sealant Layer on Cast Film Lines

Cast film structures with a sealant layer of ELEVATE EF206 are produced on twin-screw extruders feeding a 2,500 mm coat hanger die with a die gap of 0.3–0.5 mm. The sealant layer is 12–18 µm in a total film thickness of 50–80 µm. Melt temperature is set between 210 °C and 230 °C; die lip temperature is held within ±2 °C of the centre to avoid width-dependent seal initiation shifts. Hot tack is measured at 120–130 °C on a J&B hot tack apparatus with a 0.5 N/25 mm seal force and 0.2 s dwell, yielding 2.0–3.5 N/25 mm on LLDPE-rich substrates. Heat seal strength after 24 h conditioning at 23 °C and 50% relative humidity reaches 8–12 N/25 mm under ASTM F88/F88M-21. The polar vinyl acetate content improves interlayer adhesion to barrier tie resins and aluminium foil at levels of 3–5 N/15 mm, measured per ASTM D1876. Processing limitations include blocking when the film roll is stored above 30 °C, since the film surface tack increases with residual EVA content; chill roll temperature is therefore maintained at 15–20 °C. Terminal applications are lamination films, bakery overwrap, and frozen food lidding. Food-contact use requires the final film to meet FDA 21 CFR 177.1350 for EVA copolymers and EU Regulation 10/2011 overall migration limit of 10 mg/dm².

Injection Moulded Anti-Vibration Pads and Shore Hardness Limits

ELEVATE EF206 is filled with 60 phr barium sulfate and 20 phr calcium carbonate to produce injection-moulded anti-vibration pads and appliance damping blocks. The compound is mixed in a co-rotating twin-screw extruder at 160 °C, pelletized, and injection moulded on a 120-ton machine with a screw L/D of 20:1 and a compression ratio of 2.5:1. Barrel temperatures are 150 °C, 165 °C, 175 °C, 180 °C; the mould is held at 25 °C. Injection pressure is 80–100 MPa with a holding pressure of 60 MPa for 5 s. The filled compound density rises to 1.55 g/cm³; Shore A hardness is 75–80 per ISO 7619-1:2019; rebound resilience is 25–30% per ISO 4662:2017. Compression set at 23 °C after 24 h is below 20% per ISO 815-1:2014. The main process conflict is abrasive filler wear on the screw tip and check ring; hardened bimetallic barrels and a screw speed below 100 rpm are specified to limit screw wear to 0.1 mm per 1,000 h. Terminal articles include washing machine damping pads, HVAC compressor grommets, and industrial machine mounts. Odour and VOC emissions are checked under VDA 278 with toluene equivalents below 50 µg/g for automotive acceptance. The compound is not recommended for continuous service in contact with aromatic solvents or DOP-based plasticized PVC because phthalate migration can soften the pad surface and reduce static friction.
